Update!

 ⛵ Race and Cruise
with Beach 🏖️ Party
last Saturday January 21
See Pics Below!

Thanks to all of those who participated in the race and rendezvous on Saturday!

It was a great success with nine boats on the line.

We did the short course with the light winds shifting from east to south on flat seas.

Thanks to Bob Andreini and the crew of Believe and Dennis Auray and the crew of No Name for the assistance with setting and retrieving the mark.

Thanks also to our cruising fleet and Bob Andreini for the wonderful beach party.  Here are the finish times as recorded by VHF.
Some tips for a better race:
Register early so you appear on the scratch sheet.

Get a rating from https://www.westfloridaphrf.org/.  Technically it’s a requirement to be scored for the BOTY series. Makes for better competition too.

Read the SI and enter the GPS coordinates for the marks so you can complete the course. Some marks are hard to see, so having the location in your GPS helps.

Next up:
I have reached out to Scott Milligan from CMCS to confirm the status of the two races scheduled for February, but have not heard back. Given the condition of Ft Myers Beach, my guess is these will not happen, but we remain optimistic. If they do not happen we hope to run races those days in a format to be determined.

In the meantime, look at the Calendar on gulfcoastsailingclub.org and consider attending other sailing events like Cruising and Sugden Sundays...

Upcoming Races on the Racing Calendar:
...

We had 7 boats participate in the beach event.  About 25 people and 1 dog!

Doug Foss and Bob provided dinghy services, but not everyone required them especially if you have a cooler as your flotation device!

The wind shifted S to SW, which was great for the race, but the beach landings were a bit sporty.  The party lasted for just over 3 hours and then everyone sailed off into the sunset.

Thanks to Rick and Jenn Reed and new member Skylor Sinclair who were with me on Believe and helped tremendously!
